ZUR ANSICHT: Lexicon for an Affective Archive

First published in Polish at the instigation of the Narodowy Instytut Audiowizualny, NInA, the Polish Audio-Visual Institute in 2015, the “Lexicon for an Affective Archive” was translated to English and published for a non-Polish-speaking community in 2017.

As the editors, Giulia Palladini and Marco Pustianaz, expose in their introduction, the project tackles both the question of the Book and the Archive, and the wider idea of archival processes and procedures beyond mere operational protocols. Rather, it is the idea of personal involvement, of subjectivity, and of affection / affectivity and their influence into the coming into being of archival bodies that was at the centre of the collection. In so doing, this volume seems to open up new dimensions in reflecting upon the concept of archive we commonly use in a testimonial and basically utilitarian sense.

The publisher as well as the editors have kindly granted us permission to reproduce the introductory essay.
